ABOUT:
The ARIAH Foundation, is a non profit organization, committed to educating, supporting and advocating for Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) who have been impacted by systemic racism and oppression in the reproductive healthcare system. ARIAH’s programs and services are centered around BIPOC mothers, birthing people, their partners and families who have experienced trauma and loss due to disparities and inequities in reproductive healthcare.
ARIAH stands for the Advancement of Reproductive Innovation through Artistry and Healing and was founded in 2019 by the family of Shamony Makeba Gibson, a 30 year old mother of two who passed away due to a birth-related pulmonary embolism. Like so many black women and birthing people who succumb to maternal mortality, Shamony’s condition was treatable and her death was preventable. The ARIAH Foundation is committed to ameliorating the scourge of maternal morbidity and mortality by providing education, support and advocacy for Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) individuals, families and communities who have been impacted by disparities, inequities and injustice in the reproductive healthcare system.
